Although there is a full time provision for each Key Stage each day of the week, we also ensure that support is given to all pupils in terms of accessing their therapeutic programme to ensure their primary objective of managing their medical condition can progress.


In addition, pupils are able to access music lessons and groups; have a developing programme of educational visits and experiences (dependent on risk assessment and health) and regularly run special events – the Christmas celebration, the craft fair and other activities supporting charity work of the pupils’ choice.

 

James Brindley School at Newbridge is a vibrant environment with motivated and passionate staff and pupils – we are able to support all examinations and assessments working in collaboration with the home schools and ensure that pupils are not educationally disadvantaged whilst receiving treatment.

 

Newbridge House is an independent care provider based in Sutton Coldfield in a purpose built unit, catering for 22 young people up to the age of 18 with a specific focus on the management and treatment of eating disorders. The James Brindley team at Newbridge work closely with the clinical teams to ensure that educational provision while young people are inpatients at Newbridge – from days to months depending on need is outstanding and adapted to each individual pupil’s needs. Teachers work closely with home schools to ensure consistency and seamless transition on admission and discharge to ensure that as far as possible pupils are able to ‘keep up’ with their education while at the same time being mindful of their health needs and treatment plans.

 

 

 

Teaching currently takes place within two classrooms on site with additional break out space to support post 16 provision


The curriculum is adapted to reflect the need of pupils of varying ages. Key Stage 3 (KS3) pupils follow the core subjects and enjoy a balanced and broad curriculum offer and have specific timetabled time when, with support from staff, they can also access and complete work from their home school.

 

KS4 and KS5 pupils clearly have a very specific focus on their home school or college work. Specialist teachers are able to support the majority of GCSE subjects in collaboration with the home schools. Post 16 pupils have an identified teacher throughout the school day to support and facilitate their independent study and ensure access to resources and specialist guidance where needed.

Our School History

James Brindley School Administration Centre Birmingham

We teach across 11 sites including teaching centres and hospitals in Birmingham. We also provide support for children finding it difficult to access education outside of the home, due to both physical or mental health related reasons. We find children and young people respond best when they feel comfortable in their surroundings, which is why staff work hard to ensure that every pupil in our care receives the best possible education in a safe, stimulating and supportive environment.
