James Brindley Ardenleigh Centre
385 Kingsbury Road, Erdington,
Birmingham, B24 9SA
Ardenleigh is a national 18 bedded medium secure forensic psychiatric unit (FCAMHS), accommodating secondary aged young people up to the age of nineteen. Pupils in Ardenleigh are detained under the Mental Health Act and have often committed an index offence.
James Brindley School provides education to the young people - inpatients for assessment and treatment of mental health issues such as depression, bi-polar disorder, psychosis and schizophrenia. Ardenleigh FCAMHS is an accredited ASC centre and as such the clinical and education teams work together to ensure that every aspect of care and education responds to the growing number of young people admitted with and Autistic Spectrum Condition. The Centre for Learning within Ardenleigh has recently acquired the status of a Certificate of Quality of Autism Provision.
As well as offering a broad and balanced curriculum we will be enhancing our curriculum offer from September 2016 by running a ‘Bike Foundry’ where the young people can both acquire practical skills in the refurbishing and resale of used bicycles and study for appropriate related qualifications at the same time. In addition we will be offering Horticulture – again a huge and ongoing practical project with associated external qualifications.

James Brindley School Administration Centre Birmingham
We teach across 11 sites including teaching centres and hospitals in Birmingham. We also provide support for children finding it difficult to acess education outside of he home, due to both physical or mental health related reasons. We find children and young people respond best when they feel comfortable in their surroundings, which is why staff work hard to ensure that every pupil in out care receives the best possible education in a safe, stimulating and supportive environment.
